When it comes to drilling rig gear, NOV is not the only game in town; although, they are the only company who seems to get featured in analyst reports.
Granted, they are the biggest – and have always been the biggest – but Schlumberger is nipping at their heels as a result of acquisitions like Cameron. Also, a host of others are on the radar screen (including several Chinese firms):
Not this year and probably not next year, but eventually this market will rocket to the moon. Capital equipment tends to behave more like an on/off switch than a rheostat, so when it moves, it moves fast and dramatically. Offshore contract drillers need to see some rig deployments before this segment moves much, but change is in the offing.
